There is a common vision held by many in our community: "WE ALL WANT CHILDREN TO DO WELL IN SCHOOL" Healthy start is a program aimed at helping families make this vision possible for their children. We bring support services for parents and students to our community to increase student success in school.
Healthy Start Sponsored Services:

Food Closet

This helps people that need food assistance. For more information, please contact Debbie at 787-3519.

Clothes Closet

This helps Adults, Teens, Children and Infants that need clothes, jackets, shoes, toys, etc. It is open every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month from 9:00am to 11:00am. It is located at the Countryside Community Church in the basement. No appointment needed.

After School Program

This is an Enrichment program for 1st through 5th graders that attend Esparto Elementary School. It includes: Be smart program for Reading (tutors available), Homework assistance in all subjects, Outdoor activity, Nutritional snacks, Arts and Crafts, and Outside services that are going to demonstrate and share their talents.

Foster Grandparent Program

Where Senior volunteers can help and guide our children in their classrooms or in the After School program and earn a few dollars for their valued services.

Nutrition Program

Offered by UCD. This program is to teach our sixth grade students to make healthier food decisions.

CALWORKS

This program is to help people get job experience and find work. The Esparto School District and Healthy Start are registered work sites.

SSL Classes

Free Spanish Classes! Every Monday night, Esparto High School Room B-3, 7:00pm-9:00pm. Instructor: Ruth Sadler, CPHW - Health Educator.

ESL Classes

Monday's 7:00pm - 9:30pm at Esparto High School Room D (Portable classroom right before football field). Instructor: Ed Murphy.

Communicare Dental Clinic

16823 Fremont Ave. Ph: 530-787-4972 Fx: 530-787-4974. Every Tues. 8am-5pm. Eligible Insurances are: Medi-Cal, YCHIP, Medi-Care and Healthy Families. There is also a sliding scale and cash payment plan.

Healthy Start staff are certified application assistants for Healthy Families (for income eligible children and pregnant adults and teens), Medi-Cal (eligibility for the whole family) and AIM (Access, for Infant and Mother Program).
Translations services are also available through our office.
