Esparto High FFA News By: Crystal Smyth
Esparto High School FFA students have been shinning around the county. In July, we started the summer with a Soda/Water sale at the Fourth of July BBQ held by the Esparto Fire Department. While we did not do as well as planned, it was great to get students, family members and staff together to discuss upcoming events. Ms. Smyth and Mr. Bole continued the summer assisting students in preparing for the Yolo County Fair. At the end of July, Ms. Smyth held a Swine Showmanship clinic for those showing at the fair. In addition, members helped participate in making displays and prepared for the year to come. At the Yolo County Fair, we made quite the impression. Esparto FFA members worked hard with the set-up and clean-up of the auction ring, prepared decorations and displays for their animals and helped assist in loading all of the livestock. In addition, it was great to see parents and administration step-up and lend a helping hand whenever needed. Thanks for Full Belly Farms and Mrs. Dittmar, we were able to decorate the auction ring beautifully. Hatanaka Farms and Windmill Feed provided all of our livestock with a generous amount of bedding. Thanks to all of those who helped and as advisors, we were extremely proud to be staff at Esparto High School.
Classes have began and we look forward to working with each of the students through out the year. The FFA members are working hard trying to think of potential fundraising ideas for the year. Members are going to be making arrangements in Floral Design and completing projects in Agriculture Mechanics in hopes of trying to raise some money for the program. Please check the website; www.crystalsmythespartoagriculture.com to see updated information about the chapter.
At the football game on September 14th, members of the Agriculture Boosters will be selling raffle tickets to help support their program. The raffle will be held at the game. Tickets are a dollar a piece or six tickets for five dollars. In addition, on September 24th the Boosters will be holding an All You Can Eat Spaghetti Feed starting at 5pm. We will be having a pre-sale of tickets. The feed is for take out only and is $6.00 a person. Please come out and help support your Agriculture Boosters.
On October 24th, Ms. Smyth and four students will be leaving for Indianapolis for the National FFA Convention. Students hope to bring back new ideas to the chapter to help have a successful year.
Once again, thank you to all for your support and dedication and we look forward to working with you this year.
Ms. Smyth and Mr. Bole
